Not your typical Friday

Today "in the office" was not really spent in the office - more outdoors. I have a beautiful cabinet that I have been slowly working away at, up-cycling it. I have had the cabinet for well over a year. Whats held up most of time, was the design! I couldn't settle on a design that I liked and knew I could do.

Finally today I settled on a design - plain white. This is because a friend is interested in the cabinet. Once I had completed my up-cycling, it was just going to sit in my office - unused. So the offer from my friend was great, because 1. It gave me that push to finish my cabinet, 2. I had found a use for the project and 3. My friend was happy to have it plain white (so I didn't need to waste any more time finding a design to settle on).

I can liken this experience to my job - its great when I do it (creating mock-ups), I can take my time and pick from a range of designs. But when I have a client who comes to me and says exactly what they want, and gives me a time frame to do it in - this gives me motivation, excitement because my talents and skills now have a purposeful use.

It creates a situation where its a win-win for everyone. The client gets the work done that they need done - and the designer gets to show off their skills and talents.
